By using the Adult Social Care Workforce Date Set (ASC-WDS) you can benchmark your organisation against other care providers for key metrics. We look at what this means.

Data analysis is a really useful tool for care providers to support with business planning and processes. Using data is an evidence-based way to gain insights into what is and isn’t working well for your organisation – supporting you to set goals, make decisions and review performance.

The Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set (ASC-WDS) makes data management much easier for the 20,000+ care providers who use it.

It’s a free tool where you can store your staff and workforce data, including training records. It also allows a unique opportunity to compare your workforce data against other providers, offering valuable insight into how you compare in the local market and what may be key areas of improvement.

The service allows you to compare your workplace against providers in your local area who provide the same service as you, as well as against providers rated ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Right now, the benchmarking functionality is available for CQC regulated care homes with nursing, care homes without nursing, and domiciliary care providers.

The benchmarking functionality allows you to compare your organisation against other providers for four key areas:

  • Pay: to compare average pay rate for care workers, senior care workers, registered nurse salary and registered managers salary in your workplace to pay rates of other providers.
  • Vacancy rate: to see how your organisation compares against comparison group data on total vacancies.
  • Staff turnover: to give an indication whether staff tend to stay for shorter or longer time periods with your organisation than other providers, which can give a sense of job satisfaction.

How to use the benchmarking feature in ASC-WDS

Once logged in from your ASC鈥慦DS 黑料吃瓜在线永久page, go to the Benchmarks tab on the main navigation at the top of the page.

Once you’ve added the relevant data to workplace and staff records you can compare your service against similar organisations within your local area:

  • Find comparison charts around pay, recruitment and retention areas.
  • Compare against main service type or CQC Good and Outstanding providers
  • See bar graphs for pay data comparisons
  • Use ranking charts to see where your organisation ranks within the comparison group
  • Use the ‘useful links’ at the bottom of the page for insights and practical tips

This benchmarking tool empowers care providers with peer鈥慶omparison data to support informed decisions, staff wellbeing, and CQC preparation.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) use the data collected by this service. The data helps DHSC, the Care Quality Commission and local authorities make decisions about the adult social care sector.

Your comparison group data is refreshed every month and is only included after it passes extensive quality checks. All data is anonymised.
